VICTIM ASSISTANCE

If you fall victim to an auto crime,

  1. Call the police and file a report immediately. A case number will be provided to you when the report is complete.
    1. To obtain a copy of your police report, please submit a request here or call 361-886-2731.
  2. Your case will be reviewed by a supervisor for solvability and assigned to an investigator if investigative leads exist.
  3. If you have additional evidence or a supplemental loss you would like to add to your case, please contact our telephone reporting unit at 361-826-2600.
  4. If you have further questions about your case or need to schedule an appointment, you can contact the Criminal Investigations Division Help Desk at 361-886-2840 with your case number readily available.
  5. If your vehicle is stolen and recovered, the recovering agency will contact you and provide you with the details of your recovery.
    1. For information regarding the City of Corpus Christi’s impound lot or how to retrieve your impounded vehicle, please call 361-857-1996.
       

Please note that our detectives can only investigate an auto crime. Our taskforce is unable to pursue civil matters such as:

  • Issues with mechanics
  • If you have shared ownership of a vehicle with the alleged offender
  • If you feel your vehicle was unlawfully towed

USED VEHICLE SALES & PURCHASES

Did you know that when used car shopping you can search the National Insurance Crime Bureau's (NICB) database with a car's VIN to see if it has been reported stolen?

When buying or selling a used vehicle, be sure to:

  1. Confirm the title and VIN match one another
  2. Ensure the title is in the name of the person selling the vehicle
  3. If you sell your vehicle, keep your license plates—they belong to you
  4. Complete a Vehicle Transfer Notification Form within 30 days of sale to the Texas Department Motor Vehicles

68A INSPECTIONS

When: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month

Time: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. To ensure your vehicle is inspected, please be in line by 10 a.m.

Location: Corpus Christi City Impound Lot, 5485 Greenwood Drive

Cost: $40 cash, must be exact change

What to Bring: Any and all paperwork regarding the vehicle or trailer

You will have 30 calendar days upon completion of your 68A inspection to submit the appropriate form to the requesting county tax assessor-collector’s office or TxDMV as applicable.
