Michael Rodriguez currently oversees the Police Department, the Fire Department, Human Resources, Court Administration, Asset Management, and Strategic Planning & Innovation.
The Deputy City Manager reports directly to the City Manager and develops and implements policy objectives, strategies, and operation plans for the City Manager’s office. The position is part of the executive leadership team and works with Assistant City Managers, Directors, and departments in providing administrative and managerial skills relating to the full range of municipal management issues. The Deputy City Manager resolves problems or conflicts that arise in City government and helps establish good management practices. Certain Departments, Offices, and Operational functions may report to the Deputy City Manager.

Michael Rodriguez is a native of South Texas and came to the City of Corpus Christi in 2019 after working for the City of San Antonio for nearly a decade. Michael currently has direct oversight of our Public Safety operations (Police, Fire, and Emergency Management), Human Resources, and the Office of Innovation. Throughout his tenure with the City of Corpus Christi, he has had direct oversight of several major city infrastructure functions and departments, including Engineering Services, Public Works/Streets, Libraries, Communications, and Intergovernmental Affairs. Michael holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He also is Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certified. He has completed the Bloomberg Harvard Executive Leadership in Crises Management program and Harvard’s Executive Leadership Economic Development program. He currently is enrolled in the Certified Public Manager (CPM) program.
