none Project Description

Packery Channel is a tidal channel connecting Corpus Christi Bay to the Gulf of Mexico that supports recreational boat traffic. The Packery Channel Restoration Project consists of repairs to shoreline protection, sidewalks, bollards, storm drains, handrails, and other damaged structures. Work is anticipated to begin in January 2022 and last about 18 months. The City received an official FEMA-PA award letter on September 14, 2021, declaring that the Packery Channel Restoration project had cleared final eligibility. The FEMA-PA award is intended to fund 90% of the repair costs, leaving the City a 10% local share of $1.5 million.

January 03, 2024
The contractor has made great progress in opening up a significant portion of the southern beach for the beach nourishment. As of now, the beach is closed at the 219 marker, one marker south of the original permanent closure for vehicles. Over 106,500 cubic yards have been added to the beach so far. The additional sand has helped to widen the beach and provide a buffer against erosion from storms and tides.

September 15, 2023
The contractor is continuing to work on the sidewalks and bollards on the south side of the packery channel.

August 11, 2023
The contractor is currently placing rocks on the western side of the North jetty near the boat ramp, and they’re installing sidewalk on the South jetty.

February 20, 2023
The contractor is currently installing rip rap moving West toward the boat ramp. Once complete, they will move to the Southside, starting at Lake Padre and heading East towards the gulf. Sidewalks and bollards should begin to be installed in the next 2-3 months. The project is currently 68% complete and should be finished later this summer.
