Through our swim lessons, the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department staff teach swimmers of all ages and skill levels to master swimming while also teaching the importance of water safety. Please view ‘Swim Lesson Levels’ for more details on the structure of our learn-to-swim program. Group swimming lessons are designed for children ages 3-12. Teen/Adult, as well as Parent & Toddler classes, are also available. Level placement is based on the student’s swimming ability, age, and date registered. Swimmers ‘graduate’ to more advanced levels once they are competent in all the skills covered in the previous level.

Lessons and Levels: Our instructors are certified as Red Cross Learn to Swim – Water Safety Instructors.  And we follow the Red Cross Learn to Swim curriculum. We offer 6 levels of swimming instruction. Levels 1&2 are often combined because students tend to progress very quickly through those levels. In Levels 1&2 basic water safety and waters skills are taught; floating, elementary strokes, confidence in water, etc. In Level 3 the classic swim strokes are introduced, front crawl, breaststroke, etc. To enroll in Level 3, a participant should be able to already swim 25 yards in some fashion. Levels 4,5,6 progress into more and more technical water skills such as diving, flip turns and refining the swim strokes.
