The mission of the Backflow Cross-Connection Control Program is to ensure the safety of the potable water supplied to customers.
The City of Corpus Christi established its program in 1996 to protect potable water and is now tracking testable backflow prevention assemblies. We perform surveys to identify possible cross-connections and inspections for proper installation of backflow prevention assemblies.

BACKFLOW PREVENTION – AWWA
Following a settlement from 2021, Corpus Christi Water (CCW) received limited funding in February 2023 to furnish backflow assemblies to commercial and industrial customers on a first-come, first-served basis. The City of Corpus Christi requires the installation of backflow prevention devices for irrigation systems, water pumps, fire sprinkler systems, and other applications where back pressure or siphonage could occur.
If you are a commercial or industrial utility account holder and would like to receive a free backflow assembly, please email BackflowProject2023@cctexas.com with the following information:
- Company Name
- Address
- Contact person name, email, and phone number
- Type of facility (medical/dental/processing/refining)
- Size of backflow assembly needed
- Type of hazard requiring backflow protection
- Location where assembly will be installed (GPS coordinates)
A backflow assembly test report must be entered into the third-party database, Vepo, within 30 days of CCW’s notification for pick-up or delivery of a complimentary backflow assembly. Commercial customers are responsible for contracting with a licensed plumber to install, maintain, and annually test their backflow protection device per the City ordinance. The City ordinance also requires a permit to install, remove, or replace an existing assembly.
