A Day in the Life of a Texas Park Ranger

Mustang Island State Park comprises just under 5000 acres on Hwy 361 on the way to Port Aransas. This unique barrier island habitat is home to countless birds, mammals, invertebrates, turtles, and fish. Join Ranger Eric as he discusses some of the more notable creatures and the pressures they face to survive. The program will feature a touch table with bones and shells, their survival strategies, and a day in the life of an interpretive ranger.

Brian McDermott, tattoo artist and owner of La Promesa Tattoo, will display traditional flash designs, talk about the history of this ancient art, and answer questions from inquiring artists young and old!

Art creation and appreciation with Japanese Outreach Initiative Coordinator Hitomi Sakakibara. We will view centuries-old cherry blossom art and design new creations inspired by this special Japanese season.

Children's Day is a world-renowned Japanese holiday. We will feature performances by the local chapter of the Teiko Drummers Troup and have traditional carp crafts of koinoburi. Japanese snakes and various demonstrations will be held throughout the afternoon.
