Whitecap Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Whitecap Treatment Plant is the smallest of the six plants, designed to treat 2.5 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater and serves the North Padre Island area. The plant was initially constructed in 1974 and was designed to treat 0.5 MGD. In 1991, the plant's capacity was increased to a capacity of 0.8 MGD.
This plant is an activated sludge process plant operated in a Contact Stabilization mode. Presently, the plant is treating about 0.7 MGD with a 5 mg/l BOD5 and 6 mg/l TSS effluent quality. The plant is permitted for a 20 mg/l BOD5 and 20 mg/l TSS effluent discharge. This facility operates under an authorized permit issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
