FEMA MAPS
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is updating the flood insurance maps for this area.
- FEMA is still working to update the current preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (“FIRMs”) in Nueces County.
- With updated maps, our community will have more precise information about the flood risk potential in our community.
- When FEMA finalizes and issues the Flood Insurance Rate Maps effective and the City agrees to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program, the City will be required to enforce state and community floodplain management regulations
A website link to the DRAFT FIRM’s is being provided at the bottom of this page.
INFORMATION ABOUT DRAFT FIRMs:
- Draft Firms
- are provided for public information purposes
- are not in effect by FEMA
- may be subject to change by FEMA prior to finalization
- FEMA had provided the City with certain draft FIRM’s and had recently authorized the City to share them with the public in advance of FEMA’s issue of the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for this area. Draft FIRM’s are available for those properties only within the City limits.
- To help inform property owners and community officials review the draft FIRM’s, FEMA will conduct outreach activities to secure public comment.
- Again, it is important to remember that these draft maps are FEMA’s working documents. The information in these maps is subject to revision during FEMA’s public comment period.
- These draft maps are not:
- FEMA’s newly-issued flood maps/FIRMs used to rate insurance for this area
- FEMA’s current effective flood maps/FIRMs for this area
- FEMA’s current preliminary flood maps/FIRMs for this area
