GUIDE TO VENDOR PERMITS

Solicitation or peddling permits are only needed when there is any money exchanged for either service or goods. Going door to door to inform a customer about a business through either verbal or written communication does not require a permit. 

It is against federal law to put anything in the mailbox it is only reserved for the US mail. All flyers or letters should be placed elsewhere .

 

Non-Profit Solicitation Permits

 

This permit is required for any group or person engaging in, or purporting to engage in solicitation for a charitable purpose. This includes a chapter, branch, area office or similar affiliate, or any person soliciting contributions within the City for a parent charitable organization, but does not include an organization whose primary purpose is supporting or opposing any candidate for elective office, or influencing the nomination for elections or the election of any candidate for elective office.

 

The City of Corpus Christi does not authorize standing or walking in a roadway to solicit charitable contributions. 

A Charitable Purpose is any purpose, whether actual or purported, which an ordinary citizen would reasonably classify as charitable, benevolent, philanthropic, patriotic, religious, social service, welfare, educational, cultural, artistic, or a public service or association of public servants   

For organizations that did not receive, or do not plan to receive more than $10,000 in their accounting year.

 

  • Fill out Simplified Registration Statement.
  • Pay $10.00 fee.
  • Within 60 days after a charitable solicitation campaign has been completed, the charitable organization shall furnish a Statement of Income and Expense.  If the charitable solicitation campaign covers more than one year, the charitable organization shall also file a Statement of Income and Expense on each anniversary of the campaign.  The failure to file timely a Simplified Statement of Income and Expense may result in said company being denied a permit at time of renewal.

 

For organizations that received, or plan to receive more than $10,000 in the accounting year.

 

  • Fill out Detailed Registration Statement.
  • Pay $50.00 fee.
  • Within 60 days after a charitable solicitation campaign has been completed, the charitable organization shall furnish a Statement of Income and Expense, prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.  If the charitable solicitation campaign covers more than one year, the charitable organization shall also file a Statement of Income and Expense on each anniversary of the campaign.  The failure to file timely a Detailed Statement of Income and Expense may result in said company being denied a permit at time of renewal.

Peddler Permit

 

A peddler is a person without a permanent business establishment within the city who sells, offers for sale, rents or offers for rent goods or services by means of going upon private premises from house to house or place to place without the expressed request or consent of the owner or occupant and who makes delivery at or near the time of any such transaction.

 

Requirements:

  • Fill out application completely.
  • Attach following:
    • Certified copy of Assumed Name Certificate (D.B.A.)
    • State Sales Tax Certificate
    • Copy of Business Liability Insurance Policy
    • Copy of Health Permit (if applicable)
  • Pay base fee of $25.00 and $5.00 for each person selling for each 30-day period.

Commercial Solicitor Permit

 

This permit is required for a person without a permanent business establishment within the city who takes or offers to take orders for future delivery of any goods or services by going upon private premises from house to house or place to place without prior consent of the owner or occupant.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Fill out application completely.
  • Attach following:
    • Certified copy of Assumed Name Certificate (D.B.A.)
    • State Sales Tax Certificate
    • Copy of Business Liability Insurance Policy
    • Copy of Health Permit (if applicable)
  • Pay base fee of $25.00 and $5.00 for each person selling for each 30-day period.

Itinerant Merchant Permit

 

This permit is required for a person without a permanent business establishment within the city who engages in the temporary business of selling, offering for sale, renting, etc. of any goods or services from a permanent established structure.  A temporary association with an established resident business or person does not excuse any itinerant merchant from the necessity of purchasing a permit.

Requirements:

 

  • Fill out application completely.
  • Attach following:
    • Certified copy of Assumed Name Certificate (D.B.A.)
    • State Sales Tax Certificate
    • Copy of Business Liability Insurance Policy
    • Copy of Health Permit (if applicable)
  • Pay base fee of $25.00 and $5.00 for each person selling for each 30-day period.

Gulf of Mexico Beach Mobile Vendor Permit

 

A person who sells, offers for sale, rents, or offers for rent goods or services by means of going upon Gulf Beaches (excluding land owned by the State and/or Nueces County), using a mobile vehicle.  The permit does not give the person permission to set up a structure and remain in a fixed location.  (This permit does not include the Gulf Beach Seawall area.) 

Requirements:

 

  • Fill out application and provide attachments as listed in the application.
  • Attach following:
    • Certified copy of Assumed Name Certificate (D.B.A.)
    • State Sales Tax Certificate
    • Copy of Business Liability Insurance Policy
    • Copy of Health Permit (if applicable)
  • Pay base fee of $25.00 and $5.00 for each person selling for each 30-day period.

Gulf of Mexico Beach Fixed Vendor Permit

 

A person who sells, offers for sale, rents or offers for rent goods or services by means of setting up a temporary structure, that will be removed at the end of each business day on Gulf Beaches in city maintained areas (excluding land owned by the State and/or Nueces County).  Vendor will remain in a stationary location.

Amusement Stickers

 

All businesses that have coin operated vending machines (video games, jukeboxes, pool tables, etc.), or any individual who places coin operated vending machines (video games, jukeboxes, pool tables, etc.) inside an establishment is required to purchase a sticker that must be affixed to each machine operating within the city limits of Corpus Christi.  The stickers are valid for the period of one calendar year.  Stickers for existing machines should be purchased on or before the first of January of each year.    

Requirements: 

 

  • Fill out application completely.
  • Include Serial Numbers of all machines.

  • 1st quarter $15.00
    2nd quarter $11.25
    3rd quarter $  7.50
    4th quarter $  3.75

Seawall Permit

 

A person who engages in the temporary business of selling, offering for sale, or renting of any goods or services on the Seawall, for a period of time greater than 30 days.  Exceptions include special events, fireworks displays or parades:  Bayfest and 4th of July.

Vendor Permit

 

A vendor shall mean any person who engages in the business of selling, offering for sale, renting or offering for rent and delivering from stock at or near the time of sale or rental, any goods or services from any vehicle, cart, stand, or other equipment or device or from his person (not including opened food/drink items) from, in or upon any public street, alley, sidewalk, park, beach or any other public way or premises or from, in or upon any private premises; and outside a permanent, established structure. This includes a person who sets up on a lot with a currently running business.

Requirements:

Provide the Office of Code Enforcement with a permission letter from the owner of the lot/business stating that it is permissible to sell on the lot.  The vendor may not move to another lot without obtaining a new permit.

 

  • Pay fee of  $75.00 for 3 months.

NOTE:  If the vendor wants to use a tent, it now becomes a Temporary Promotional Event Permit.  This type of permit may be obtained at the Development Center at 2406 Leopard (Frost Bank Bldg.), 826-3240.

 

Parade Permit

 

An event that is a walk, run, or parade needs a Parade permit. Contact Police at 886-2686./p>

 

Buccaneer Parade Permits

 

Contact 882-3242 with questions.

 

Special Events Permit

 

 

Any event held in City parks or Corpus Christi beaches (e.g. events, weddings, reunions, parties, political rallies), call 826-3417.

Any event wanting to use a moonwalk or other inflatable game, ponies or to rent Cole Park Amphitheater/Heritage Park, call 826-3417.

Health Permit

 

Temporary Food Booth and Food Handlers Permits are issued by the Nueces County Health Department-Environmental Health Services Division at 2626 Holly Road, 826-7273.

 

State Sales Tax Certificate

 

This certificate is issued by the State Comptroller, 400 Mann, Suite 600, 882-1234.

 

D.B.A or Assumed Name Certificate

 

This certificate is issued by the County Clerk’s Office, County Courthouse, Second Floor, 901 Leopard, 888-0580.

 

Trade Center/Flea Markets Permit

 

A vendor who wishes to sell at the Corpus Christi Trade Center or any Corpus Christi flea market needs to contact the Trade Center or flea market, as they handle there own selling criteria.  Contact the Trade Center, 2833 S.P.I.D., at 854-4943.

 

Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission-Temporary Alcohol Permit

Special Events

 

Any large special event on the beaches (North Beach or Gulf Beach) or along Shoreline, (e.g. Velocity Games, Beach to Bay) and any concert on private or public land within Corpus Christi city limits. Call 826-3417 for Special Events. For Traffic Engineering (street closures, signage, etc.) call 826-3510.

 

Water Activities during Special Events

 

Any special event doing activities in the water must get a permit from the coast Guard including water activities and fireworks.  Contact the Coast Guard at 888-3162.
