the art of Jim, Sharon & Daniel Forsythe

The City of Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Cultural Services Division will be hosting the “Seed Flower Fruit, the art of Jim, Sharon & Daniel Forsythe” art exhibit. The exhibit will be on display October 6 – November 20, 2009 in the Galería Galván at Heritage Park.

Sharon and Jim met in art school at University of Texas in Austin. Paul Bardagjy, an Austin-based professional photographer and friend of theirs, said that he’d love to see what a collaborative work between the two would look like. Now twenty-five years later he’ll have to go to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. to see Daniel’s work, a real Jim and Sharon collaboration, but then again, Paul could visit the Galván House in Corpus Christi and see works on display by these three artists. The show will consist of collaborations by Jim and Daniel, works by Jim, works by Daniel and works by Sharon. From drawings, paintings, mixed media and digital photo collage these three explore almost every visual expression in this show.

Jim and Daniel's first showing in the Corpus area (2005) resulted in a Best of Works on Paper and two-out-three of their collaborations in that show sold. Sharon also has done well in her showing art in the Coastal Bend area with a best of Show at the Art Center, and a show as a merit artist at the Rockport Center for the Arts and has received several other Best of Categories in shows. Recently at the Independent’s Show-Art Center of Corpus Christi, Sharon won Best Painting and Best Mixed Media, Daniel won Best Works on Paper and Jim won Best Sculpture and an Honorable Mention in Sculpture. These are only a few of the accomplishments by this family when it comes to the creation of art.

Jim says, “A family that makes art together, has a crowed house.” Sharon says “Ugh” and Daniel says, “I need some more paper here.” So come see the show, and take one or two pieces of art home with you, greasing the wheels of commerce and helping the Forsythe’s de-clutter.
